Why Bracesox Is No Longer Available on Amazon - An Explanation and Customer Education

Bracesox in 1997 and have proudly been in business for over 35 years, manufacturing in America. Throughout those decades—selling directly to customers, medical professionals, and retailers—returns specifically for "damaged" were extremely rare. In fact, over 30 years pre-Amazon, we had fewer than 10 such returns total. When we began listing on Amazon in 2020, that changed dramatically. We started receiving around 10 returns per week labeled as "damaged," even though the products arrived in perfect condition from us. What we consistently observed was a clear pattern: Customers would order multiple Bracesox of different sizes to try on at home (a common "try-before-you-buy" practice on Amazon created by customers). They'd keep the size that fit best and return the others, often marking them as "damaged" — even when the only issue was fit, not actual damage. The returned items frequently came back unsellable, covered in cat hair, floor dust, pet dander, odors, or visible wear from use.

This is unfortunately a well-known form of return abuse that many Amazon sellers in apparel, socks, compression garments, braces, and similar "try-on" categories experience. Amazon's generous, customer-first return policy makes returns easy and often free, but it can lead to high abuse rates where buyers exploit the system for free trials. For sellers, this means absorbing the cost of unusable returned inventory, processing fees, and damaged stock that can't be resold—while Amazon metrics penalize high return rates, hurting visibility and sometimes leading to restrictions or forced delisting.

After years of this unsustainable pattern, we made the decision to no longer sell Bracesox on Amazon. The products are now currently unavailable there (showing "We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock"), and we've shifted focus to direct sales through our official site: bracesox.com.
